Kids being out of shape, not being physically active, that is the "old news." The "new news" is not discussed as often but is known to adult runners. Running is a teacher. It builds character. There is a reason why young runners on cross country teams are usually recognized as some of the most mature and throughtful kids in school. Running lends itself to insight, reflection, focus, mental toughness, self-esteem, and other attributes that will serve kids well later in life.
The promotion of youth running, and running events for kids, is on the rise. All good, for them and for society overall.
